Here's a little bit about me, written by other people.


The Early Days

He grew up in Delaware, Michigan and Wisconsin cared for by his father and mother together with his two elder sisters and a younger brother. He acted at an early age; appearing in many school plays until the sixth grade. In high school, he was third string goalkeeper for his school’s varsity soccer team. He also excelled in basketball, which he loves to play. He graduated in Okemos High School in Michigan in 1995. He didn’t pursue college, and instead worked as a construction worker for a few more years in his hometown.

First Break

When he was 21 years old, while vacationing in Nantucket, a modeling scout for Abercrombie & Fitch approached him and offered a job as a male model. After thinking about it back home, he went off to New York to do the shoot and start his career as a model. He then moved his parents to New York and worked for the next two years, traveling the world doing shoots and shows.

Changing His Course

By early 2000 he realized that modeling really wasn’t for him, so he then resolved to give himself one year to pursue an acting career.

His first jobs were commercials for TJ Maxx and Verizon. However, his first big break as an actor came in late 2000 when he landed a role as Rob Meltzer in Judging Amy. He played Amy’s love interest who’s ten years younger. Originally, his character was just meant for three episodes, but because of his performance he was called back for three more. In 2001, he got a small role in Special Unit 2 as male victim no. 1 and also appeared in the pilot episode of Undeclared as a frat boy.

Big on Smallville

He landed the role of Clark Kent in September 2001. At first, he was hesitant to audition amongst hundreds of people vying for the big role of young Superman, but the casting directors encouraged him to. When he read for the part (the scene on the graveyard), which he liked, he realized it wouldn’t be so bad to play the Man of Steel. On his way back home, he got the news through his agent on the cellphone that he got the part. He stood on the side of the road screaming with happiness.
Now...

Now, Tom works sixteen hours a day filming the show, but his free time is spent downhill skiing, visiting friends and family, reading, running, and playing basketball. He lives in Los Angeles when not filming Smallville.

Some Little Known Things About Him

• Like Christopher Reeve, was not a big Superman fan prior to being cast as Clark Kent, and in fact continues not to read Superman comics.
  
• Named one of People Magazine's 'Breakthrough Stars of 2001'.
  
• Turned down the role of the young Clark Kent twice before accepting it.
  
• Has a pug named Cook.
  
• His shoe size is a whopping fourteen.
  
• He ranked in at #9 in E!'s Rank: 30 Best Bodies.

Hot Man of Steel

We all know that Tom Welling is currently 26, but that didn't stop Teen People from adding him on the list... For Tom, they're willing to break the rule! He was born in New York and raised in Hockesin, Del. His heat factor could be seen by simply watching WB's Smallville. Up next from this star is a remake of the film Cheaper by the Dozen with Steve Martin, Hilary Duff and Piper Perabo, which is coming your way on December 25.

He's notoriously quiet about his personal life--he keeps mum to the press about everything from his love life to his pets (though we know he has a pug, Cook). "Tom and I get along very well, but he's very closed off to people," costar Kristin Kreuk has admitted.

"I guess I'm a homebody." He describes a typical night as dinner at 8, home by 10.
